Darcey Murphy

Murphy is a 21-year-old artist from Peterborough but currently living in London, where Murphy is studying in the third year of  a BA Painting at Camberwell College of Art. Murphy's artwork is a detachment from reality by exploring static figures in surreal poses and circumstances. The work is inspired from subconscious feelings due to current circumstances surrounding the artist and others. Reflecting times such as COVID-19 and how lives appear to be on standby, drifting by before us without anything we can do about it. Murphy is interested in placing anonymous figures in dream like situations, using vivid colours in an attempt to escape real life and explore how suspended reality is depicted in concrete media through abstract figuration. Murphy's main mediums consist of oil paint and soft pastels combined on canvas, applied in a way that conveys movement and avoids precise shapes.
